YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP

GET PAID TO LEARN!

Youth Apprenticeship (YA) is a 1 or 2-year program that gives juniors and seniors in high school the chance to explore a career area of interest. Students spend part of their school day earning credit and wages while they gain valuable industry experience under the guidance of a local business mentor.

JOB SHADOWING

Job shadows give students the opportunity to experience a typical day in a career of interest. Students spend time with an adult at his/her worksite, observing and asking questions about a career. Through job shadowing, students:

  • Begin to identify career interests

  • See how knowledge gained in school is used on the job

  • Explore the skills and education required for a career

  • Learn about related careers in the same field

Silver Cord

FHS Student Services started a new volunteer program in 2019 to help encourage and embrace civic responsibility by our student body in our Fond du Lac Community. This will help students develop community relationships, provide leverage on college applications, resumes, etc., create a better understanding of self, develop a stronger academic and career plan, and so on. You can start your hours NOW! This program is open to any interested student.

Students can earn up to:
.5 credits on their transcript AND a high honor cord for graduation

Tutoring

Completion of the Tutoring/Student Aide application process and consent of an instructor is required (requires own transportation). Students must meet GPA, attendance, and behavior expectations. The Tutor/Student Aide program provides students with the opportunity to assist teachers with various tasks related to classroom activities and help assist students with learning within. This opportunity is only available during school hours, and within a Fond du Lac Elementary School, Middle School, or High School. The opportunities for the student will be dependent on the teacher that has agreed to have the Tutor/Student Aide. Tutors/Student Aides will apply 21 st Century Skills of Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Creativity to assist teachers with classroom preparation, classroom organization, laboratory set-up, and assisting in the learning process.
